Classes deliver a full body aerobic workout that combines tennis with cardiovascular exercise. Taught by a qualified coach, it is a fun activity for players of all ability levels.

The Neutral Bay Club runs junior tennis classes throughout the year for different age groups and skills. Classes operate every morning between 08:00 to 08.50, and every afternoon from 15.30 to 18.30. For children attending Neutral Bay Public School we offer a drop off and pick up service.

The classes support Tennis Australia’s ANZ Hot Shots Development Programme. Classes running include:

Red Ball

For 5 – 8 year olds, this is a basic introduction to tennis. The group coaching gives young beginners self-confidence and helps them to develop gross motor skills in a fun environment. The use of a red ball, which is larger than the standard yellow ball and doesn’t bounce as high (25% compression), allows even the youngest player to achieve a measure of success.

Orange Ball

For 8 – 10 year olds, this is group coaching with an orange ball, which bounces a little higher but still not at full compression (50%). It encourages the continuing development of young a player's physical skills and self-confidence while also introducing them to tennis techniques and stroke mastery.

Green Ball

For children of 9+, this is group coaching using a green ball (75% compression). The group sessions allow young players to focus on perfecting their court technique and racquet strokes.

14+ Camp

For experienced juniors as a transition towards adult play.

Neutral Bay Club’s evening mixed, and men’s and ladies doubles social tennis is of a solid competitive standard. Social tennis is available on Tuesday evenings throughout the year.

Due to limited court space, the Club requires that Tuesday night players are either at or approaching competition level. This is to ensure that the tennis is of a high enough standard for the vast majority of the members. For players of a lower standard, or for members wishing to arrange a fixed four, courts are available for hire throughout the week. There is also intermediate social play on a Monday morning

Due to the local community's increasing participation in tennis, coupled with the Club's aim, which is to make tennis a favourite activity for North Shore residents, we are currently looking into organising social tennis for intermediate players on another evening. If you are interested please contact the Club on 9953 2066 or at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

How Tuesday Night Social Tennis Works

Social play on all four courts is open to everyone from 19:00-22:00 (18:00 - 22:00 for members).

The Club provides the balls and professional coaches organise the doubles pairings. Tuesday social tennis is included in the annual subscription.  For non-members there is a $15 fee. Club representatives manage all social tennis on Tuesdays.

Please note: A heavy demand for Social Tennis in good weather can cause waiting time between sets. When this happens the Club operates a short deuce system to ensure regular and speedy court rotation.

Tuesday night social play usually ends with a few drinks at the Sports Bar.

The Club’s social tennis has been highlighted as one of Sydney's top ten tennis experiences by Time Out Australia

Additional Social Tennis for Club Members

Membership also includes full, free use of the courts until 18:00 wekdays, plus Friday and weekend evenings, (bookings necessary). There is also the opportunity to play club organised fixed fours on Thursday evenings.
